Was Aunt Ina's Second husband, George R.L. Hopkins, related to Aunt Helen's family?

Part 2

Last year (2006) I wrote an article about Norman's{#29} wife Ina's{#1444} second husband, Georg R.L. Hopkins{#1445} and showed how he was related to Norman's sister-in-law, Helen (Hopkins) Downs{#19}. You can read this article here and it examined the Hopkins family connections and concluded that they were at least third cousins once removed.

Recently, I picked up a book written by Stephen A. Hopkins{#8289} called Three Dollars Just Same. I want to interject here and say that the title as I typed it is correct and there are no words, such as "the," missing. This is his story about growing up in Orleans, Massachusetts during the 1930s and 1940s. I picked it up for a light read and not to research family history, but we often find things of interest when we least expect it.

At one point he was describing his extended family and began talking about his Uncle George. Through his description of relationships and a bit of genealogy he shared, I realized that he was talking about George R.L. Hopkins who married Ina. It certainly is a small world.

I learned a bit more about George such as he worked as a geologist for the Federal Government in Washington D.C. George was born in Orleans on 3 March, 1898, which made him only 26 days younger than Ina. He grew up in Orleans and even when he lived in Washington, he maintained a summer home off Tonset Road on Freeman's Lane. I'm sure this is where we he went to retire. Is it any wonder he met Ina later in life?

The book was a good read and is available as of this writing (November 2007) from Barnes & Noble online.
